Introducing: Forest Cloud

Spring Summer ’15 sees Forest Cloud launch their inaugural collection, fusing subtle Hawaiian prints with premium Japanese construction and fabrics. The brand in the brainchild of Kenta Goto – who has spent the last eight years working as the lead designer for Vancouver-based label Reigning Champ – and prior to that, co-founding one of the most inventive brands of the early 2000s streetwear era. But Forest Cloud sees Goto’s deisgn work stray from the sportswear-led minimalism of Reigning Champ and the graphic-heavy work of BRKNHome for something more refined. The collection itself is as laidback as you’d expect for a brand with Hawaiian roots, with an smattering of relaxed tailoring sitting comfortably alongside beach shorts and soft denim button up. The work of renowned graphic artist Sig Zane is woven through the collection, with his monochrome plant motifs complementing each style and bringing a vibrancy to otherwise austere silhouettes. Having handled the brand’s Autumn Winter ’15 collection, I can vouch for the quality and craftsmanship that has gone into this brand, and it’s exciting to see menswear with a graphic component that is neither jarring nor obtuse. Evidently, these are not the archetypal Hawaiian-print shirts, but something entirely wearable and pretty fucking cool.
