A Drink A Day: 2013 Domaine du Carrou Sancerre
There was a time that I would have never guessed I would end up being such a huge fan of any wine with the word rosè in its name. After some time in the south of France enjoying real rosè for a few weeks over looking the Côte d’Azur I realized how much of an asshole I was for having missed so many good wines over the years. I suppose I will use my better late then never card on that one. Well that and guacamole, but that is for a different story. Well, since that fateful summer a few years back, I have been on a mission to do some catching up with that oh so refreshing pink elixir. When I had the chance to pick up a rosè Sancerre from this notoriously passionate winemaker I had no choice but to bring this home to enjoy!
The color on this is nothing but a work of art. A golden rose color with hints of red only seen in the hair part of a newly married Hindu woman. I was hoping for a slightly more in your face nose, but it was a tight go at first. After time this gem opened up to show some fresh, sweet stone fruit and red fruit. It was a nice reminder that you don’t need every wine to jump out of the glass right away at you. Sometimes you have to let it develop in good time. By the end, the bottle opened nice and wide. The palate was very similar to the nose on this one, but with more refreshing acidity then what the nose may have suggested. It was a great treat for sure. You can team up this great wine with some creamy Chevre or a simple roasted chicken or turkey and be spot on. Hell, you can just take your time and just drink this over the coarse of an evening!
